Alcohol & Addiction Specialist

Sarah WalshI have 15 years of sustained sobriety from alcohol and abstinence from drugs, having overcome 20 years of alcohol and drug abuse. Prior to working in addiction and mental health, I worked in various creative industries in New York City and London. I now live in Bristol with my husband and Bob the dog.

I specialize in counselling people who have concerns around theirs or another’s alcohol consumption, drug use or other compulsive behaviors such as obsessive internet use and gambling. I am familiar with 12 step, abstinence and harm reduction.

Many people gravitate towards abstinence after a harm reduction program but there is no one program or set structure which works for everyone. After an initial assessment we will decide which approach best suits your situation, though often this will change over time.

A twelve step approach will encourage abstinence and usually uses a traditional AA program. Abstinence can also be achieved without a 12 step program.

Harm reduction approaches can include CBT tools to reduce behaviour.
