Body Psychotherapy
All body-oriented psychotherapy is based on the inspiring work of Wilhelm Reich who was originally part of Sigmund Freud’s circle of psychiatrists in Vienna at the beginning of the last century.
Reich developed a psychological understanding of the body, working with massage to free and process emotional / energetic blocks. Body psychotherapy sessions provide a safe place to breathe, connect with and express emotions, to develop a deeper physical awareness.
Body psychotherapy has come a long way in the last 80 years and there are many approaches and techniques that have refined this therapeutic process, especially the understanding of the importance of the relationship between therapist and client. The care and respect provided by the therapist supports the therapeutic process. It is this relational element which provides a safe, contained crucible for transformation.
