Integrative Body Psychotherapy
My approach to body psychotherapy is very much about the relationship between the client and myself, developing trust and deep connection. I work with breathing and body awareness exercises, massage and movement to access body memory, energetic impulses, and emotional charge in order to change the complex matrix between mind/body/energy. Over time a person’s relationship to their bodyself, other people and the earth can be healed and transformed. I believe in the importance of embodied self-awareness especially in terms of developing spirituality.
This experience of working physically and energetically with clients gives my work as a supervisor a valuable perceptiveness and depth.
Originally trained as a fine artist, I spent twenty years as a working artist and theatre designer, also working in television and film. I also had the experience of many years in personal therapy, individually and in groups.I emigrated from Canada to the UK in 1987, meeting my spiritual teacher Irina Tweedie shortly afterwards and beginning my journey on the Sufi path.
I trained as an Integrative body psychotherapist at the Chiron Centre For Body Psychotherapy in West London in the early 90’s. Since then I have worked in private practice both in Bristol and in Somerset. From 2003 to 2007 I worked partime in GP surgeries all over south Somerset, laterly as part of the South Somerset Primary Care Trust Mental Health Team.
Much of my clinical experience has been in working with trauma and disassociation, spiritual emergence and emergency, of which anxiety, depression and somatic symptoms are a part.
In 2009 my colleague Terry Davey and I established Fulcrum House in Bristol as a psychotherapy centre designed for indepth, expressive therapeutic work.
I work as a supervisor for psychotherapists, group facilitators and complementary therapists.
